This page explains how IMPS chooses, researches, writes and updates its articles. Our aim is accurate, useful and easy-to-read information about mental health for readers in India.
Who writes our articles
Articles are produced by the IMPS Editorial Team. The team is responsible for everything published on the site.
How we choose topics
- Questions readers send us.
- What people in India search for when they are worried about their mental health or someone else’s.
- Issues that matter in India in particular, such as exam pressure, family expectations, the cost of care and access to services.
Sources we rely on
- The World Health Organization.
- Indian government sources, including the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, NIMHANS, ICMR and the National Crime Records Bureau.
- Research published in peer-reviewed medical and psychology journals.
- Professional and regulatory bodies such as the Indian Psychiatric Society and the Rehabilitation Council of India.
We link to our main sources in each article. We do not use personal blogs, forums or social media posts as evidence.
How we write
- Plain language and short sentences.
- Indian context: costs in rupees, Indian services and helplines, and Indian law.
- Statistics only with a source, using Indian figures where they exist.
- No diagnoses, no promises of cures and no sensational headlines.
Writing about suicide and self-harm
We follow the Press Council of India’s guidance on reporting suicide, which is based on World Health Organization recommendations. We do not describe methods or locations, we avoid sensational language, and every article on these topics shows free helpline numbers.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research, outlines or language. A member of the team checks, edits and fact-checks every article before it is published.
Keeping articles up to date
Each article shows when it was last updated. We review articles regularly, and sooner when guidelines, services, laws or helpline numbers change.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. See our corrections policy.
Independence from advertisers
Advertising pays for the site, but advertisers do not influence what we write. See our advertising policy.
